Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 VS Sony Xperia Tipo

Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 (Samsung S6500) and Sony Xperia Tipo (ST21i/ST21a) are low-end Android smartphones. Which is one more suitable for you?

Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 vs Sony Xperia Tipo

Sony Xperia Tipo has a 3.2-inches display, while Galaxy Mini 2 has a bit larger 3.27-inches. As the difference is only 0.7-inch, we can assume that there’s no difference in screen size. Their display resolution is HVGA (320 x 480 pixels), which is not too bad for a low-end smartphone.

In terms of performance, they are powered by the same processor, Qualcomm MSM7227 clocked at 800 MHz. The graphics performance on each phone is boosted by Adreno 200 GPU.

RAM & Storage
512 MB RAM is installed on each handsets. Tipo comes with 2.9 GB of built-in storage (2.5 GB user available), while Mini 2 comes with 4 GB of built-in storage. They have a microSD slot which supports up to 32 GB.

Operating System
Sony Xperia Tipo is the winner here. It comes with Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich pre-installed. S6500 runs the old Android 2.3 Gingerbread and Samsung doesn’t have any plan to give Ice Cream Sandwich update for it.

They pack the same rear camera resolution, 3.2 megapixel. Unfortunately they don’t have a front-facing camera.

Standard connectivity features such as GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA, and microUSB 2.0 are provided on both devices.
Like other current Sony smartphones, the Bluetooth version on Tipo is still 2.1. Galaxy Mini 2 is equipped with newer version of Bluetooth (3.0). Two features on S6500 which aren’t available on Tipo are Near Field Communicator (NFC) and Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA).

For battery, the Sony Xperia Tipo is equipped with a 1,500 mAh battery, while the Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 is equipped with a 1,300 mAh battery.

Dimensions and Weight
The dimensions of Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 are 109.4 x 58.6 x 11.9 mm, while Xperia Tipo are 103 x 57 x 13 mm. Galaxy S6500 weighs 107 gram. Xperia Tipo is lighter with just 99.4 gram of weight.

Sensor, audio/video supported formats, GPS

Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 and Sony Xperia Tipo are two entry-level Android smartphones. You can get one of them if you don’t want to spend too much money for buying a smartphone. Galaxy Mini has better connectivity features like newer Bluetooth version, DLNA, and NFC. It also has bigger internal storage. But if you want to taste Ice Cream Sandwich, you should go with Xperia Tipo because Galaxy Mini 2 won’t be updated to ICS (unless you install a custom ROM with ICS).
