A Microsoft event was held yesterday in Hollywood California. On the event, Microsoft announced its own tablets in Surface family. There are two variants will be made, the first is running on Windows RT OS and the other is running on Windows 8 Pro.
The first tablet that running on Windows RT operating system has a thickness of 9.3 milimeter (only 1 mm thicker than iPad) and weighs 1.5 pound. The casing of Surface Tablet is made of magnesium. Micorsoft calls Surface as a full PC. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass. There’s also a magnetic cover like Apple Smart Cover for iPad. But the Microsfot’s has multi-touch keyboard inside.
Microsoft also showed Surface Windows 8 Pro with a stylus. The stylus pen is magnetically tethered on the side of tablet that allows input on the screen and refuse touch input to prevent accidental input. The digital pen has a density of 600 dpi.
The RT version will be lighter and has less feature. Both tablets feature a 10.6-inch display, but with different resolution. The Windows 8 Pro version has Full HD resolution, while the Windows RT version has HD resolution.
Ballmer at the event said that it was as a historic day for Windows 8. With the launch of those products, it shows that Microsoft is not only software maker, but also hardware maker. However, Windows 8 based tablets will also be made by another manufacturers.
There’s no detail information about the price of Microsoft tablets. But, Microsoft said that those products will be sold at a price that competes with Intel Ultrabooks or ARM tablets. Surface with Windows RT will be available at the same time with the launch of Windows 8, while the Pro version will be available 90 days later. Both will be available on Microsoft Stores and Microsoft Store Online.
