As predicted by many people, Apple announces the new version of iOS called iOS 6 at the WWDC 2012 event. iOS 6 is the latest operating system for iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch. On the press release, Apple said that iOS 6 will provide some additional features that simplify daily activites. The iOS 6 upgrade is free and will be available in the autumn or around September this year. On that announcement, Apple also explained some new features on iOS 6.
As predicted before, the maps application gets update with new design. The maps application is switched from Google Maps to TomTom Maps, which also offers turn-by-turn navigation with traffic density information, as well as the flyover feature to see landmark buildings from the air.
iOS 6 has deep Facebook integration. User can share photos directly from the camera application. The integration with Calendar application makes user always reminded about the birthday of friends. User can also share profile from Contacts data to Facebook, such as phone number and email.
Now, the Photo Streams can be shared with selected friends. The photos can be seen by friends who access via iCloud or web. People can also comment on the shared photos.
Siri application also gets update with additional databases in sports, restaurants, and movies. Siri can help user to open an existing application, without requiring the user to touch the handset.
Apple also provides PassBook. With PassBook, user will get information about discount, coupon, as well as flight schedule.
FaceTime, an application for video chat, is also improved. Now, video chat is not only can be used via wifi, but also via 3G cellular networks provided by carriers.
Another new feature is the call recjection feature which send SMS to caller containing the reason why the call is rejected. The Mail application is also updated with VIP contact category and the ease of sharing images and videos. The new Safari browser can view full web page horizontally. It can also save webpages for offline reading.
Apple also adds some new features for iOS 6, such as Find My iPhone, Find My Friends, as well as the app store remodeling and new features to its users in China.
Apple’s iOS 6 will be available for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, fourth generation of iPod, iPad 2, and new iPad (third generation). Unfortunately, the first generation of iPad and the previous generation of iPod will not get this update.
