They have the same display resolution, 480 x 854 pixels. Xperia J has larger display size, 4.0-inch compared to Xperia Sola’s 3.7-inch display. Consequently, Xperia J has lower pixel density (245 ppi) than Sola (265 ppi). Xperia J’s screen is coated by Corning Gorilla Glass 2, which is not available on Sola. However, Sola has a cool feature called floating touch, which allows user to operate the phone without touching the display.
For the performance, Sola is faster than J. The dual-core 1 GHz CPU and Mali-400 GPU on Xperia Sola provide faster processing performance than single-core 1 GHz and Adreno 200 GPU on Xperia J.
RAM & Storage
512 MB of RAM is equipped on each smartphone. Xperia J internal storage is only 4 GB, whereas Xperia Sola is 8 GB. Unlike the NXT Series, they’re equipped with microSD slot which supports up to 32 GB.
Xperia J comes with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich pre-installed. Although comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, Xperia Sola is upgradeable to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Of course, both handsets use Sony Timescape UI.
The two Xperias pack 5 megapixel camera on the rear. For video recording, Xperia Sola supports HD video recording. It wins against Xperia J, which only capable to record VGA video. Unfortunately, Sola dosen’t have front-facing camera for video recording. The Xperia J has equipped with VGA camera on the front.
HSDPA on Xperia Sola supports up to 14.4 Mbps, twice the maximum speed of Xperia J. From those two smartphones, NFC is only provided on Xperia Sola. Sola also has newer Bluetooth version (3.0). Xperia J still uses Bluetooth 2.1 like previous Sony smartphones.
Xperia J has larger battery capacity (1750 mAh), while Xperia Sola’s battery capacity is only 1320 mAh. That makes Xperia J has better stand-by time.
Dimensions and Weight
With 9.9 mm of thickness, Xperia Sola is thicker than Xperia J with 9.2 mm of thickness. But, Xperia Sola (107 grams) is lighter than Xperia J (124 grams)
In terms of audio, Xperia Sola features 3D sound enhancement.
The advantages of Xperia Sola over Xperia J are floating touch display, better video recording, faster performance, bigger internal storage, better connectivity features, lighter weight, and 3D sound enhancement. But, the Xperia J has larger display, front-facing camera, and higher capacity battery.
