After NVIDIA announced its latest mobile processor yesterday, Qualcomm also announces the presence of high-end chipset at CES 2013. The new chipsets are Snapdragon 800 and Snapdragon S600. Qualcomm claims that Snapdragon S600 is 40% faster than S4 Pro on Nexus 4 and Optimus G, while S800 is 75% faster.
Those chip uses High Performance for mobile (HPm) technology with 28nm fabrication. With ultra-tiny size, the power consumption will be lower. The LTE network capability of the chip allows data transfer up to 150 Mbps. It also supports Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth, USB 3.0, and others.
Snapdragon 800 and 600 are designed based on the latest architecture and component. The design offers improvement on performance and efficiency. Snapdragon 800 has quad-core Krait 400 CPU that can be clocked up to 2.3 GHz on each core, while . Snapdragon 600 has quad-core Krait 300 CPU that can be clocked up to 1.9 GHz on each core.
Mapping and location capability is an important thing on nowadays smartphone. Qualcomm announces IZat technology, which unifies several tracking systems so the navigation can be automatically accurate and utilization of application aimed for walkers.
Other improvement on Snapdragon 800 on multimedia side is the chip is capable to record, play, and show 4K Ultra HD video at 30-fps, even though in mobile device. The latest Adreno 330 GPU is 50% faster than Adreno 320. The chip supports 2560 x 1048 pixels display. In audio side, Snapdragon 800 is equipped with DTS-HD dan Dolby Digital Plus technology.
First device using Snapdragon 800 is estimated to be available in market starting from mid-2013, while first device using Snapdragon 600 is predicted to be available in market starting from Q2 2013.
