Mozilla is rumored to have collaborated with Hon Hai Precision Industry, Foxconn’s parent company, to prepare a gadget that runs Firefox OS. This collaboration will be announced on June 3th, ahead of the Computex 2013 event held in Taiwan.
Product as the result of their collaboration will be announced at that event. According to internal sources, the product that will be demonstrated at the event most likely is a tablet. Invitations for the event have been distributed to media outlets.
Hon Hai will be the 19th party to collaborate with Mozilla. This collaboration will make Firefox OS reaches broader region after previously provided in Europe via Geekphone and reportedly sold out.
Previously Mozilla has announced that the company has teamed up with some operators and manufacturers such as Sprint, Deutsche Telekom, SingTel, Huawei, and LG at the MWC event in Barcelona.
Hon Hai itself is reportedly diversifying partnership after a prediction stating that Apple’s business as one of Hon Hai main partners is declining. Besides Apple, Hon Hai also assembles products for other companies like HP computers and Nokia phones, but both are reported declining too.
Besides the partnerships, Hon Hai is also said to expand its business to media content and software, besides repairing its ritel business lineup that generates higher margins than contract manufacturing.
