Jolla, a new smartphone company founded by former Nokia employees, has just announced that it will introduce the first Sailfish OS smartphone OS on May 20th. Sailfish OS is taken from Nokia’s MeeGo OS, but developed with a new user interface.
The announcement by Jolla using video teaser is posted on YouTube. The video contains sentences ‘I am the other half. All will be revealed on the 20th of May’. Sailfish OS software based on MeeGo was introduced in November of 2012. It is estimated that the other half is the hardware that will be announced on the 20th of May.
Sailfish OS focuses on full-multitasking between apps and interaction capability on mini apps directly through the homescreen like a widget. Sailfish OS also offers straightforward personalization. The operating system can be installed on smartphone, tablet, or other device.
Joola has got supports from various vendors to develop that OS, one of them is ST-Ericsson that provides Nova-Thor platform to help Jolla compete in the smartphone market.
