Mozilla has announced its latest smartphone operating system called Firefox OS. The OS is aimed to compete with Android, the most popular smartphone OS in the world.
Gary Kovacs, Mozilla CEO, said that many operators and manufacturers have stated their readiness to accept Mozilla’s general offer.
Some manufacturers have been ready to produce mobile device with Firefox OS, such as TCL Communication Technology (Alcatel) and ZTE. The first smartphones with Firefox OS will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.
Some operators which have become the first partners of Firefox are Sprint, Etisalat, Deutsche Telekom, Smart, Telefónica, Telecom Italia, and Telenor. The first Firefox OS device will be launched for the first time in Brazil in early 2013 by the second biggest carrier in that country, Telefónica.
